Learn how to play the Mexican Train Game
Wednesday, March 11th, 2009The Mexican Train Game is part of the ‘Domino Train’ family of games.. It is a variation on the classic Train game. Double Six Domino Sets can be used for two players. But Double Nine Dominoes are best, and a Double Twelve is preferable for three or more players. Mainly because, to really enjoy the Mexican Train Game, starting with a bigger hand and having more ‘Stock’ creates much more excitement. This could also be said for even the most basic, traditional Train Game, and all it’s variations. The object of the game is to lay all the Tile drawn at the beginning of the game.. With a Double Six set, only seven Tiles should be drawn, for up to two or three players. You will find recommendations do change, depending on where you read the rules! But in general, for a ‘Buzz Game’, the more you have left over in the ‘Stock’, the better. Plus, the more you draw in the first place, the better! Using Double Nine Dominoes, a group up to four players can draw around a dozen Dominoes each!
There are various Specialised Domino Sets, for The Mexican Train Game, commercially available. They usually have a special ‘Train Station’ included, where the first Double of the game is laid. Double Nine Dominoes and the Mexican Train Game can become quite extensive, especially with half a dozen players! Having a ‘Central Station’ can be a REAL PLUS! They might seem a little ‘gimmicky’, but actually? They are quite a practical thing to have around! To play, each player will also need an individual marker. The Mexican Train Sets also include ‘Train Shaped’, markers for players. Specialised Sets do add a little ‘atmosphere’ to the game. Probably why they’re so popular. But they’re certainly not essential. Coins, poker chips or anything which can be distinctive to each player, and can be placed on the domino, is good enough! Apart from individual markers, a ‘Double Marker’, often a black token, is also needed.. This one is shared by all the players.
The game starts with the highest double, placed into the ‘Central Station’ - or the centre of the table if you don’t have a set! This is sometimes referred to as the ‘Engine’. From then on, the Mexican Train Game, it’s full steam ahead. If you’ve already played the Classic Train Game, or any of it’s other variations, like Chicken Foot, you’re probably going to love this game. The rules can seem a little complicated, at first.
